Accredited with Grade ‘A by NAAC in January 2014, DAV. College has, over the decades, carved a niche for itself in the fields of Academics, Sports and Extra Curricular activities. Established in 1926,
the college is affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh. It imparts education in the following courses – B.A., B. Com., B. Com. (Hons.), B.C.A., B.Sc. (Medical, Non-Medical and Computer Science), B.Sc. (Agriculture), M.Com., M.Sc. (IT), M.A. (Punjabi, Political Science and History) besides Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications and Post Graduate Diploma in Fashion Designing. B.B.A. Course has been started from the session 2021-22. Many skill development courses affiliated to Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala have been initiated. The excellent infrastructure- Hem Raj Kapoor Auditorium, Principal Major Raj Kumar Memorial Block, Audio- Visual Lab, Principal S.P. Salik Memorial Block, Principal Ramdas Hall, commodious classrooms, Lecture Theatres, well- equipped Laboratories, and well-stocked Library, Playgrounds, Gymnasium, Students’ Centre, Fine Arts’ Studio, Home Science Lab, Post Graduate Block, Post Graduate Library, Computer Labs, Botanical Garden, Heritage Room and a branch of Indian Bank all provide an atmosphere that is both healthy and conducive to learning. Initially set up as a High School in 1898, D.A.V. College was licked into shape by great men like late Lala Ram Parshad, Lala Devi Chand, Lala Ram Dass and Pandit Rala Ram in 1926. In response to persistent public demand, it was raised to a Degree College in 1940 and Postgraduate classes were added to the institution in 1948. The college has produced scores of scholars, administrators, professionals and statesmen who are today serving the country in various capacities. Every year our students earn positions in academics, sports and extra mural activities because of the untiring efforts of the teaching faculty. The well-qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty is continuously engaged in updating their knowledge by consistent participation in Webinars/Seminars/ Conferences and contribution to Research Journals. Several teachers are actively pursuing Research in their respective fields to upgrade their qualification. To substantiate traditional teaching with modern techniques, extensive use of ICT is made during ‘Teaching with Technology Fortnight’. Online teaching was undertaken by teachers during Lockdown period resulting from pandemic Covid-19; besides several online competitions were organised to keep the students constructively engaged during the lockdown period.
D.A.V. College aims at infusing into its alumni the spirit of selfless service through the building- up of sterling characters. It tries its best to inculcate patriotism and national culture. Education here is a harmonious blend of old and new values of life.
